spencerradiosizedSpencer J. Trombly, 79, of Silver City, NM, passed away on Oct. 14, 2017 following a brief illness.

Spencer was born in Hartford, CT to Perley and Myra (LaVallee) Trombly on May 9, 1938. He attended school at The Hartford Regional Technical. He married Alison Browne Brackett on December 15, 1988 in Mystic, CT. Spencer worked for the Marine Sciences Institute at the University of Connecticut for 22 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served for eight years in the Submarine Service out of the Groton New London Sub Base. Spencer served on the USS Daniel Webster and commissioned the USS Lafayette and the USS Ethan Allen.

From the time he was a young man in his teens, Spencer was fascinated by and an active participant in the world of amateur, or ham, radio operation. He studied very hard, tested for and earned his operator’s license from the FCC in 1955 then received his Extra Class license in 1994 and maintained it throughout his life, up to his death. He took part in various ham radio festivals, including most recently the Eclipse Fest in Driggs, ID for the total solar eclipse of August 21, 2017. Just prior to his death he donated his radio equipment/electronics to a group in AZ which will be used in a school opening in Gila Bend to teach new ham radio students.

Spencer also enjoyed soaking in every hot spring he could find, motorcycle riding, camping, bird watching and star gazing with his wife Alison and found New Mexico the most interesting and beautiful place where he was enthralled with its never-ending beauty and discovery at every turn in the road.

Spencer is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters-in-law Perley and Elizabeth, Gene and Charlotte and Gerald and Hope, his daughter and son-in-law Sarah Louise and Brian Stillson, and his Great Granddaughter Melania Marie Edwards.

Spencer is survived by his wife Alison, his daughters from a previous marriage : Lorraine Ochoa and partner Joe Plasentilla, from Tucson; Amy and Garry Jones, from East Lyme, CT; and Ruth and Hamed Berenji, from Burbank, CA; two step children Kimberly Case from Manchester CT; and Dean Zajehowski of Coventry, CT. His grandchildren; Brittany Grubb Hodgson, Madeleine Cecilia Ochoa, and Spencer Vargas Ochoa and his great grandchildren Tanis, Mila, Rilan and Kail Hodgson, Audrina Corrine Ochoa and her brother, due in February.

No services will be held, as per Spencer's wishes. Cremation will take place at Bright Funeral Home. A gathering of special friends and neighbors will take place at a later date., which will be announced. Donations in Spencer's name can be made to the American Cancer Society.

The family of Spencer wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Horizon Hospice for their loving care, help and support during his short illness.
