bob gray rsRobert "Bob" Edwin Gray Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 18, 2017 in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Bob was born Oct 29, 1930 in Santa Rita New Mexico to Nellie and Benjamin Gray; He was the youngest of five children; Sister Myrtle Belle Stretz and brothers Frank, Bill, and Benjamin Gray.

Bob married Jo Ann Drake on June 23, 1956 and they had two sons, Robert Jr. and Steven.

Bob graduated from Hurley High School in 1948 and soon after went to work at the Hurley stores butcher shop. He proudly served in the US Army from Feb 1951 to Jan 1954 where upon his return home he returned to work at the butcher shop at the Hurley stores once again. Bob worked for Kennecott Copper Corporation his entire career until his retirement as a Maintenance Foreman in 1990.

He was an avid bowler and a member of the Hurley Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Bob grew up and spent his entire life in Hurley, New Mexico.

He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family. Bob spent his last hunting trips with his son and granddaughter. Being outdoors was Bob's favorite thing to do and he never liked being confined indoors. Bob enjoyed sitting in his swing on the front porch just so he could be outdoors. He loved little kids and especially loved being with his grandchildren whenever possible.

He passed over peacefully on November 18, 2017, at his son's home in Alamogordo with his wife, his son Steven and wife Dominique present.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Jo Ann Gray, his sons Robert Gray Jr. and Steven Gray and wife Dominique, foster daughter Linda Peters and husband Seth; his grandchildren Nicole Montoya and husband John, Courtney Gray and fiancé Kenneth B. Murray and daughter Iy'sis, Stephanie Brown and husband Josh, Sarah Gray, Paul Naumann and wife Melissa, Hanna Wilson and husband Matt, foster grandson Cody Palmer and wife Ashley; great grandchildren Hailey Montoya, Derek and Ryan Naumann, Conner and Brooke Wilson, Breckin Palmer and future great grandchild Baby Murray expected in April 2018 and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He will be remembered for his big heart, great sense of humor, wittiness and the importance he placed on the simple things in life. Bob accepted Jesus Christ into his heart and his family is confident that he is at peace and with the Lord.

Memorial Services will be held at the Indian Hills Baptist Church in Silver City, New Mexico on December 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
