stonePeter Joseph Stone, 72, passed away Saturday June 21, 2019 at home following a two-year illness. A Funeral mass will be served Friday June 28, 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Oliver Obele officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. He was born June 6, 1947 to Bernard and Barbara Stone in Providence, Rhode Island and was a first-generation Irish American. He will be missed dearly by his loving wife of 26 years, Bonnie (Williams) Stone, with whom he shared the love of an adventurous life, moving to places such as Vermont, Maine, Delaware, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Washington and finally Silver City, New Mexico.

He was a wonderful and loving father to Katherine Stone Koontz (Brett), Adam Stone, (Stephanie) Christopher Winsley (Rachel), Susannah Winsley (John Buchard), and Emily Farley (Kyle), grandchildren Cody, Christopher, Avery, Aiden, Ainsley, Annabelle, Timmy and Savannah. He served with the Marines in Vietnam and was a POW until later rescued by another Marine team. He spent 18 months in a Naval hospital; being put back together physically. He then graduated from both Providence College, Rhode Island and Harvard University playing hockey for both schools.After working as a chemist for the Food and Drug Administration, Pete decided to change directions and go to nursing school.  He graduated USC school of nursing.  He worked for several years as a night supervisor at LA County Emergency department. Later as an ER department director/manager in various locations, he liked to remind staff when they felt overwhelmed or too busy, that they could all handle it, because it was nothing like working “in the busiest ER in the world, LA County Hospital.” In lieu of flowers and donations be made to the local humane society or to the Gospel Mission in Silver City, New Mexico in remembrance of Pete J.
