perea 02Samvictor G. Perea, 88, a life-long resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Friday, July 5, 2019 at his residence. He was born July 23, 1930 in Santa Rita, NM to Juan Bautista Perea and Edith G. Perea. He served in the Marine Corp from Aug 1946-Aug 1949 and Feb. 1953-Feb. 1955 in the Korean War.  He was in the Military Police and part of a machine gun squad. He was a production truck driver for Kennecott and retired after 30 years of service. His hobbies included making custom furniture, wood carving projects, drawing and painting, and playing fast pitch softball and watching his favorite baseball team on TV.  He was an avid dancer and enjoyed country music as well as Mexican ballads. He contributed his art abilities to the building of Penny Park in Silver City. He loved to travel and toward the end of his mother’s life he devoted himself to her care for the last 10 years of her life. He was a loving father with a big heart, wonderful sense of humor and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by two sons, Rudy Archuleta of Canyon City, CO; Michael Perea of Albuquerque; one daughter, Lorraine Perea of Canyon City, CO; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Naomi Castañeda and husband Eduardo of Socorro, NM.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Pedro Perea; two sisters, Rumalda Torres and Ruth Gonzalez. In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to St. Jude or Wounded Warrior. A Graveside service with full military honors will be celebrated on Friday, July 12 at Fort Bayard National Cemetery at 2pm.
