kilgore 02Rex Alan Kilgore, 75, a resident of Hurley, NM entered eternal rest Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born March 23, 1944 in Anderson, IL to Earl Rexford Kilgore and Evelyn Athea Millage Kilgore. Rex went into the U.S. Navy after high school as a radioman or a mine sweeper. His uncle had taught him Morse code and that inspired a lifetime career. He served during the Cuban conflict and his time in the Navy took him to many places and left lasting memories for this Indiana boy. After the Navy, he went directly into IBM. His Navy training allowed him a 30-year career in a field he loved. Upon his retirement he owned and operated Kilgore Business Equipment and continued serving the area until full retirement in 2005.

He and his wife relocated to Hurley where they spent the last 14 yrs. working on their 100-yr. old home. Rex was dedicated to the Hurley Pride Committee and spent many hours with his friends on projects like the Arch of Pride Flag display at the Hurley Park and the life size Santa display at the Hurley Depot and holiday decorations. He took great pride in being involved with the 100 American flags displayed in Hurley. He enjoyed his friends and neighbors when they sat in their patio; folks passed by and waved. Often stopped for a chat, he liked that. The coffee was always hot and the door open. He is survived by his loving wife Sa Vanne of the family; one son, Ty Alan Kilgore of Murphysboro, TN; one daughter, Rena Sue Kilgore of Hurley; two granddaughters, Brenna and Haleigh Kilgore; two brothers, Harvey Dale Kilgore and wife Stella of Elkhart, IN; Eddie Kilgore of Elkhart, IN; one sister, Linda Kilgore.
