MadridRudyOur father, Rudy Madrid has passed away peacefully in El Paso, Texas at Del Sol Medical Center, at the age of 89.  Dad was born May 5, 1934 in Silver City, NM. Raised by his grandparents, Frank and Petrocina Madrid and Aunts and Uncles.

In his youth, he attended Lincoln Elementary School where he made many lasting friendships that extended through his entire life.  Many of them are now his compadres.

Mom and Dad were married 63 years until Mother passed in 2016.  They both raised their children Viola, Rudy Jr., Olga, Bobby and Evie, in the same house they lived in their entire married life.  Dad remodeled our small home with the help of his sons by his side, Rudy Jr. and Bobby.  He would always say, “I built this house, one nail and two by four at a time.” Some of his Compadres and friends would also come by and lend a hand or a can of beer.

He started working at an early age shinning shoes, mowing lawns, delivering newspapers and bagging groceries at the local grocery stores.  To buy school clothes.

When he met our Mother and married Mom, he worked at Clifton Chevrolet, then went to work at Kennecott/Phelps Dodge until he retired as an Acid Plant Operator.  He was also involved in politics for a while.  He was the Democratic Chairman for Grant County for a few years.

His favorite activity was going hunting every year with his two sons and his Compas.  One year, he bought a rifle for Mom so she could go hunting with him.  She got so excited when she located a deer, and needless to say, she scared the deer off.  He brought her home immediately.  After the hunt, Dad would drive around town with the trophies strapped all around the little green truck.  Some how he always found time to take all of us camping.  Mom liked going to the Cliff Dwellings, Box Canyon and their favorite camping area was Grape Vine.

After Mom’s passing, he became more of a homebody and would spend his time with his little companion Buddy.  He loved it when his friends would come over and reminisce on their days gone by.  They would listen to their Mexican music, play the guitar and sing, laugh and their silly jokes.  Now resting together with his beloved, Chenny.

He is survived by his two daughters, Viola Villagran (Urbano) of Silver City, NM and Olga Chavez (Arnold) of Silver City, NM; his 10 grandchildren, Monica, Pete Joseph, Armando Roman, Graciella, Carlos, Alexis, Rudy, Vanessa, Oscar and Sondra; his eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; his numerous nieces, nephews and God-Children.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Senaida (Lebario) Madrid; his two sons, Rudy Madrid, Jr. and Bobby Madrid; his daughter, Evie Madrid; his two grandchildren, Roman Gabriel and Rosella Ann.
