“Guera”, as she was affectionately known, was born to Pedro and Leonor Castillo.  She grew up in the Mimbres Valley.  Guera married Manuel Zapata in September 1953 and together they made their life in San Lorenzo.  They raised four children and worked in almost every area ranch.  Guera was a homemaker and she loved gardening, roasting chili, quilting and cowboying with her husband Manuel.  There was nothing Guera did not do that Manuel put her up to.

Guera is survived by her children, Johnny Zapata (Mary Ann) of Mimbres, Martha Mares (Robert) of Bayard, Sylvia Zapata of San Lorenzo; grandchildren, Johnny Zapata (Jocelyn), Crystal Herrera, Andrew Mares (Jennifer), Victoria Torres (Jimmy), Sarah Morrison (Kenny), Maria Zapata (Jeremy) and Mireya Zapata; as well as 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Leonor; her husband, Manuel in 2009 and a daughter, Beatriz in 2015.
