Estevan “Steve” Ortega, 66, entered eternal rest Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Memorial Medical Hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  He was born January 14, 1957 in Silver City, NM to Gregorio and Eluvina S. Ortega.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 yrs, Sylvia Ortega of the family home; two sons, Kevin Ortega and companion Sonia Carbajal off Silver City; Eric Ortega and fiancé Norma Serrano of Silver City; three daughters, Leslie Romo and companion Jason Mathis of Bayard; Mishay Ortega of Albuquerque; Jocelyn Ortega and companion Sid Hasley; two sisters, Sista O. Clark and husband Richard of Albuquerque; Velma Apodaca and husband Mike of Las Palomas, NM; fourteen grandchildren, one great grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Speedy, Edwardo, and Billy Ortega; one sister, Rita Rodriguez.

Visitation will be held Wed, November 29, 2023 from 5:00pm-6:00pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels in Santa Clara, NM, with the Holy Rosary Commencing at 6:00pm with Deacon Bill Holguin reciting.  The Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 11:00am at San Gregorio Catholic Church in Chiz, NM with Father Mike Williams officiating.  Following the mass, he will be laid to rest at the Chiz Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Kevin and Eric Ortega, Sid Hasley, Jason Mathis, Benjamin Abeyta, Mikey Delof, Pete Ortega, and Ronald Chavez.  Honorary pallbearers are Avery Valencia, Josh Valencia, Brandon Valencia, Matthew Rubio, Rudy Siaz, and Ed Ortega Jr.
