Carroll Jay Wysong, born in space (hospital in Santa Rita Pit) on January 7, 1948 to Jesse L and Mauricette Wysong, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.

As a young man, growing up in Bayard, he participated in Little League and Boy Scouts.  During his high school years, he worked for his dad at the family business after school and on weekends.  His hobbies were working on old cars and playing golf with his dad.  After graduation from Cobre high school, in 1966, he attended WNMU for a short time then went to work for PNM and the Silver City Golf Course.  Shortly after this, he went to work for Kennecott Copper Corp.  In the fall of 1969, he met Lynda Dannelley and they married in August, 1971.  Two boys were born of this union.  Keith in 1975 and Kevin in 1977.  He returned to college in the fall of 1971 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business.  In the fall of 1973, he returned to WNMU and subsequently received his Master’s degree in Accounting in 1986.  He and his wife purchased Pearce Agency in December 1986 and he retired from the income tax business in 2015.

Jay was initiated into the Santa Rita Masonic Lodge in February 1976.  He held many offices in the lodge, including Worshipful Master in the years 1982 and 1983.  He coached both his sons Little League and Senior League baseball teams.

He served as treasurer of the Grant County Fair Board for many years and enjoyed working with his own boys as well as many other youths in the county on their animal projects. He also served as the treasurer of the Arenas Valley Water Association for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lynda of the family home, his sons, Keith, Kevin (Jessica), grandson, Kyle; brother-in-law, Tom Dannelley (Marsha); sister-in-law, Helen Peck (Randy); nieces and nephews, Larry, Brian, Tammy, Jeff & Jeromy Rains, Jill Dannelley-Mullins, Clay and Ryan Dannelley and several great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marianne Rains, and brother-in-law, Larry Rains.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 9th from 9:30-10:00am at the Terrazas Funeral Chapel.  A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 10am.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM  88130.
