Pablo P. Gutierrez

Pablo P. Gutierrez took the hand of the Lord on December 17, 2012 after a long and courageous battle. He was born January 25, 1919 in Santa Rita, NM to Mauricio and Guadalupe Gutierrez. After returning home from surviving the Bataan Death March as a prisoner of war, he gave his heart to Sarah Chavez as a devoted husband. He then made his living as a plumber for Kennecott until retirement at age 57. He is known by many as “Pablito”. Pablito greatly touched the lives of all those who had the honor of experiencing his love, friendship and life-long devotion. Throughout life’s struggles he exhibited great courage and abundant poise. He was an inspiration to his caregiver’s and doctors. He enjoyed his mornings going to Silver Café and evenings with his usual red enchiladas from Jalisco’s. He also enjoyed cruising through the sites of Grant County and Christmas lights during the holidays. At home he enjoyed watching western shows and spending time with his family. He was a family man who raised his children as well as a nephew Ramon (Tito) S. Chavez and grandchildren Lawrence G. Pacheco, Alyssa G. Castillo and Denisha G. Castillo. He is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Rosemary C. Gutierrez of Bayard; grandchildren, Patrick N. Gutierrez, Jennifer N. Gutierrez, Lawrence G. Pacheco, Alyssa and Denisha G. Castillo; great-grandchildren, Andrea, Brianna, Alyssa, and Mateo Gutierrez, Robert Isaiah, Rachel Nicole, Isaac Alexander and Jasmine Christine Ramirez, Matthew Lawrence, Ryan Adriel and Jacob Leonel Pacheco; godson, Eddie Hausermann; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Sarah C. Gutierrez; two sons, Richard Lawrence and Paul C. Gutierrez; brothers and sisters, Encarnacion, Tomas, Ramon, Marcelino, Pascual, Flora, Francisca, Severa and Jesusa. Viewing will be held Thursday, December 27th from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the vigil service and holy rosary to begin at 6pm with Deacon Bill Holguin reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Friday, December 28th at 10am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Father Paulus Kao officiating. Concluding service interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be active duty National Guardsman.
