George Rhodes, 77, a lifelong Deming resident passed away December 24, 2012 at Sierra Medical Center in El Paso, TX.

George was born in Hill, NM, on January 6, 1935 to Thomas Charles Rhodes and Elizabeth Griffiths. George served in the US Air Force. He was a mechanic for many years and continued to work on his own cars, as well as his daughter’s cars up until he reached his mid-70’s. George loved spending time outdoors. He spent much of his time sitting outside in the yard of his home, which he enjoyed very much. George will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to everyone.

George is survived by his wife, Ava Rhodes, of the home, his daughters, Shanna Hatfield and Kim Leeds, both of Deming, his sons, George Jr, of Tennessee, David, of Washington, Terrie, of Tennessee, Ira, of Arizona, and Larry, of West Virginia. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his daughter Rita Novak, and his brother Thomas Rhodes.

Cremation has taken place. George’s ashes will be buried at Ft Bayard National Cemetery at a later date.
