Mr. Chavez is preceded in death by his parents Edward E. Chavez, and Helen Terrazas Chavez Theis, one brother, Benjamin Chavez, one grandson Jeff Kennon, and his great-grandson, Eryx Mai. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Chavez of 61 years, his son, Richard Chavez, three daughters, Edwina Gardner, Christina Kennon, Stephanie Lopez (Gerardo ) one sister, Margaret  Agretelis, two brothers, Reginald Chavez (Lucille),  and David Chavez (Teresa),  grandchildren, Elena, Adron, Erik, Nicole, Richard Michael, Eddie Joe, Leah, and Lucia,  great-grandsons, Jake and John, many nieces and nephews.

Eddie was born March 4, 1929 in Silver City, New Mexico. Eddie was a hard-worker and provider from an early age.  From the time that he delivered newspapers on his roller skates in Ft. Bayard to his years of service in the United States Navy to his four decades of service in the mines, he demonstrated tenacity, strength and dedication to any job or task he encountered.  He was known for his strength of will, loyalty and ingenuity.  Perhaps his greatest achievements came in his role as a family man.  His titles were son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle; but his roles were that of provider, friend, protector, teacher, dreamer, chemist, scientist, engineer, nursemaid, dressmaker, dancer, mechanic, storyteller and general super hero. Mr. Chavez was generous to a fault and anyone who knew him need not go without food, shelter or be lonely.
