Evelyn Lawyer, 82, a resident of Silver City, NM

LawyerEEvelyn Lawyer, 82, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Thursday, July 6, 2023 at her residence. She was born on September 6, 1940 to her parents, Sylvester Albert and Vermie Myrtle (Nugent) Vicknair in Alexandria, LA.

Evelyn was an amazing wife, mother Mamo, aunt friend and Teacher too many. Those who knew our mother knew that she loved everyone the best Evelyn always told the kids that she had been in fourth grade 23 years the kids thought that was great. Every single person she met adored her no one had anything bad to say about her. If you spent any time at all with Evelyn, you would learn some very unique songs and sayings Evelyn will be truly missed.

She is survived by her husband Richard Eugene Lawyer; her four daughters, Karla Lawyer Stroman (Bill) of Silver City, NM, Kelly Lawyer Franco (Orlando) of Silver City, NM, Katherine Lawyer Spears (Clay) of Las Cruces, NM, Ansley Enyart (Jason) of Magnolia, TX; her seven grandchildren, Devin (Vanessa) Stroman, Rodney (Tira) Franco, Dustin Franco, Kaitlyn (Brett) Hooper, Riley Pierson, Jordan Enyart, Hudson Enyart; her five great grandchildren, Vincent, Victoria, Vincent Rae, Memphis and Stockton; her numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by her parents; her brother Henry Vicknair; her sister Ruby Westergard; her grandson Jayce Stroman; her dear friend, Nancy Stevens.

Lourdes Almaraz, 50, a resident of Columbus, NM

AlmarazLLOURDES ALMARAZ, 50, resident of Columbus, passed away Saturday July 8, 2023 at Mt. View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.

Visitation will be Thursday July 13, 2023 at 9 o’clock in the morning at Holy Family Catholic Church in Deming where a rosary will begin at 10 o’clock led by Irma Jaurequi.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 with Fr. Prakasham Babu, Pastor officiating.  Cremation will follow and inurnment will take place Friday morning at 10 o’clock at Mt. View Cemetery.

Lourdes was born December 9, 1972 in Nicolas Bravo, Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose and Francisca (Gonzalez) Morales.  She has lived in Columbus for approximately 30 years and was a caregiver to those in need.  Lourdes was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

She is survived by her mother, Francisca Morales of Columbus; husband Pedro Almaraz of Columbus; daughter Jesica Juarez of Las Cruces; sons Pedro Almaraz Jr. of Columbus, Guillermo Almaraz of Las Cruces, Kevin Almaraz and Cristian Almaraz of Columbus; brothers Heriberto, Antonio, Jose Angel and Carlos Morales; sisters Hilda and Maria Morales; 10 grandchildren and 2 more on the way.

Tracy Lee Evans, 69, a resident of Deming, NM

Tracy Lee Evans, 69, Deming resident passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at his home. He was born December 17, 1953 in Great Falls, MT to Thomas and Clarise (Sargent) Evans. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Mimbres Crematory and per his wishes, his remains will be dispersed to the winds in the mountains of his home town. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.

Nestor P. Placencio, 89, a resident of Bayard, NM

rosary Nestor P. Placencio, 89, of Bayard, NM passed away, July 1, 2023 in Santa Clara. 

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at Six o’clock in the evening on Monday, July 10, 2023 at Our Lady of Catholic Church in Bayard.  At Nestor’s request, cremation will take place.  The Funeral Liturgy will at Ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 also at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.  The Rite of Committal and inurnment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery.  Officiating will be Father Martin Okonkwo.  Serving as casket bearers will Gabriel Rosales, Michael Rosales, Jimmy Torres, Angel Guerrero, Robert Lopez, and Ayzik Jimenez.

Nestor was born April 12, 1934 in Silver City, NM to Trinidad and Refugia Placencio.  Nestor is survived by his loving wife, Herminia “Ermie” Placencio; nine children, numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was a retiree of Western New Mexico University. His passion was music, singing and playing his guitar. He loved singing for Catholic masses throughout Grant County, and if you were really lucky if he blessed you with “Las Mañanitas” on your special day as he did for most of his loved ones. He will be dearly missed by all loved ones and friends.
