The Sawmill Fire is burning on lands under the jurisdiction of Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, Bureau of Land Management, and the Coronado National Forest.

Gusty winds and broken topography have contributed to growth of the fire, burning in tall grass, riparian woodland, mesquite/oak brush, oak woodland, and pinyon-juniper fuel types. Values at risk include homes, ranches and outbuildings, communications facilities, powerlines, and the Arizona National Scenic Trail.

Pre-evacuations and evacuations have occurred in several communities. The strategy for the incident is full suppression.

The fire made runs in dry grass and brush. Burnout efforts were initiated on the south end of the fire.

Planned Actions
Continue burnout operations to reinforce and strengthen fire perimeter while continuing structure protection and holding operations. Anchor and flank in some areas where there is still active fire behavior and monitor and secure fire perimeter in less active fire areas.
Projected Incident Activity

Active to extreme fire behavior with red flag conditions and very low relative humidity.

Winds will be S-SW at 10-15 mph through mid-morning, becoming SW-W and increasing to 17-22 mph with gusts to near 35 mph from the late morning through the afternoon hours. A Red Flag Warning is in effect today from noon through 7 pm.
