Congratulations to the Santa Clara mining district area. This past Monday, the Chamber of Commerce assisted Hidalgo Medical Services at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new temporary HMS Mining District Health Clinic. The temporary unit will open May 1. A permanent structure will be erected in the near future. This clinic is located at 107 Northeast Street in Santa Clara.

Are you interested in outer space? At the Chamber’s May 2 Lunch Meeting, our guest speaker will be a representative of Virgin Galactic. We will hear about the plans for space travel this year from the Space Port located near Truth or Consequences. The cost to attend the lunch meeting is $15.00. Call our Chamber office at 538-3785 and we will explain how you can register online.

We received to ballots at my home this week to vote for or against a Bond Issue for Silver Consolidated Schools. To vote yes means you will continue supporting a bond that is currently on the books. It doesn’t mean you will have new higher property taxes. I believe that Silver Schools has done a good job in recent years to provide quality education opportunities for the youth of the Silver City area. However, there is more to do and it costs money. If we want our children to receive a great quality education, we need to continue creating a great environment for our students and our teachers. We need to make certain the equipment and materials needed are up-to-date and usable. I hope you will vote YES… for continuing this bond for our schools… more importantly for our students.

To close, there is a gentleman that keeps calling our office. His first inquiry was about the ranch where Lucas McCain and his son lived in the television western show – The Rifleman. The ranch was supposed to be located near the fictional town of North Fork, New Mexico. This gentleman has decided North Fork, New Mexico is close to Silver City. We keep saying that North Fork, New Mexico was a fictional town. The gentleman from another state continues believing it was near Silver City and wants us to share the secret with him… describing the location of North Fork, New Mexico. If you know something we don’t know about North Fork… please call our office at 538-3785.
