Anyone can film a video, but can just anyone film a video well? You can film with professionalism if you avoid these mistakes while filming video.

You've probably had to film a video at some point in your life, whether it was for your company, a school assignment, or your YouTube channel. Did it turn out well or horribly? The truth is that anyone can film good videos if they know how—just don't make any of these mistakes while filming a video.

Forgetting to Plan
Before you even start filming, you'll need to have a plan. Where will you shoot your video? At what time of day will you film? Which camera will you use to film, and which shots will you take? Consider all these questions and any other necessary details to ensure you're not at a loss for what to do once filming actually starts.

Using the Wrong Lighting
One of the worst mistakes you can make while filming is using the wrong lighting. Poor lighting will make your video look unprofessional and will likely be off-putting to your viewers. In contrast, good lighting will highlight your subject and give you more credibility as a filmmaker. If you don't have a lighting kit, it's best to film outdoors or with natural light in the morning or evening. If you do have a lighting kit, learn how to set it up effectively.

Recording Audio Poorly
Audio is equally as important to your video as lighting. If your audience can't understand what you're saying, you'll lose their attention much more quickly than you would otherwise. If you're using your phone to record or if the built-in microphone on your camera isn't very good, consider using an external microphone or recorder to capture better audio quality.

Settling for Shaky or Blurry Footage
You may think that filming a video is as easy as pointing your phone or camera at your subject and hitting record. While this can sometimes be true, doing so is often a recipe for shaky, blurry, or otherwise low-quality video. Don't settle for this type of footage! Instead, try using a camera stabilizer or a tripod to steady your camera or phone while filming. This will help increase the professionalism and quality of your video.

You'll see great improvement in your filming once you quash these mistakes while filming a video and replace them with good filming practices. Take the time to invest in the quality of your filming—you'll feel prouder of the end product, and viewers of your video will appreciate the extra time you spent making it!
