American citizens in Grant County and throughout southwest New Mexico are encouraged to exercise their Constitutional Rights by voting in the General Election this year.

To do so, you must first be registered to vote. A previous edition of The Chronicles Of Grant County provided details on the specific requirements to register.

While the official date of the General Election is on November 8, 2022, people are able to vote even before the official date through Early Voting options in Grant County.

One location opens today and a second location will be open on October 22.

Early voting is now available at the Grant County Clerk's Office at the Grant County Administration Building at 1400 Highway 180 East in Silver City.

According to a fact sheet from Grant County, people can participate in Early Voting at this location from October 11 to October 14, October 17 to October 21, October 24 to October 28, and October 31 to November 5. Hours each day are from 8 AM to 5 PM at this location.

Early Voting will also be available at the Alternate Early Voting Location at the Bayard Community Center at 290 Hurley Avenue in Bayard starting later this month.

People can participate in Early Voting at this location on October 22, October 25 to October 29, and November 1 to November 5, according to the same fact sheet from Grant County. Hours each day at this location are from 9 AM to 6 PM.

If you have not yet registered to vote, you can still vote by registering on the same day as you vote.

According to the Office of the New Mexico Secretary of State, individuals who are not currently registered to vote can do so in person during Early Voting. An American citizen that meets the requirements to be a voter in New Mexico is able to register on the same day as they vote by bringing one of the following items with them to the site of Early Voting:

"1. A New Mexico driver's license or New Mexico identification card issued through the motor vehicle division of the taxation and revenue department;

"2. Any document that contains an address in the county together with a photo identification card; or

"3. A current valid student photo identification card from a post-secondary educational institution in New Mexico accompanied by a current student fee statement that contains the student's address in the county."
