Albuquerque – A new bill introduced in the New Mexico Senate would require all new homes in the state to utilize solar panels and come with a charging “receptacle” for electric vehicles. Senate Bill 77 was introduced on the first day of the 2023 Legislative Session and if passed will apply to all homes built after July 1st of this year.

“With high heating costs and the price at the pump on the rise, New Mexico’s families are already shelling out more than enough for the climate agenda,” said Larry Behrens, Communications Director for Power The Future. “Supporters of solar and EVs continually tell us how affordable they are, yet they have to bring bills like this to force us to buy them. This will do nothing more than make new homes more expensive and out of reach for our families.”
