Stop Supporting Unelectable Moderate Democrats

Virginia Republicans in early fall caught a mighty wind from the Atlantic that swept almost all the state-wide candidates into office on November 4. While in New Mexico, it was more like a dust devil of swirling wind with no direction. Democrats easily won the biggest races, the mayoral races in Albuquerque and Santa Fe; however, the races for city council and school board indicate a shifting wind is coming.

In Albuquerque, the Republican McCleskey machine ran Democrat Gonzales's campaign to unseat the incumbent Democrat Mayor Keller. The Santa Fe New Mexican article dated 10.17.2021 stated, "The county Republican Party did not back a candidate in the mayor's race" despite a qualified Republican in the race. In both mayoral races, many Republicans leaders endorsed the Democrat candidate instead of candidates of their own party. Ironically, some of these same Republican backers of Democrat candidates are now queuing up to run in statewide elections fully expecting GOP support and commitment to their campaign efforts.

This sends a message to the voters, there is no difference between a Republican or Democrat candidate. The message to Republican candidates is that they cannot depend on support from the Republican leadership. The message to the rank-and-file Republicans is their party principals are no longer valued. The result is a fractured Republican party.

New Mexico's Republican leaders are headed down the same path that California Republican leaders traversed twenty years ago. California Republicans supported unelectable moderate Democrats instead of standing on principles and broadening the Republican tent. Today California Republicans are almost extinct and struggling to stay relevant.

We Stand on Principle under Broad RepublicanTent

In Albuquerque, a coalition of business organizations believed if they supported candidates that shared their values of safe neighborhoods, schools that work, and fiscally responsibility they could win, and they did. The business coalition-supported candidates won three out of the four school board races defeating the Teacher's Union candidates. In the City Council race, the two liberal progressive incumbents were defeated by candidates that support safe neighborhoods and fiscal responsibility.

In Santa Fe, Alexis Johnson courageously stepped up to be the first Republican in decades to run for Santa Fe Mayor. Johnson previously ran in 2020 for Congress in the third congressional district. She received the highest percentage of votes since Republican Congressmen Bill Redmond. She even received a higher percentage than the Republican candidate that ran in the CD-1 special election. No wonder the National Republican Congressional Committee has decided that NM CD-3 is in play.

Democrats are out of step with New Mexicans. Michele Lujan Grisham attended the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland touting her policy of Earth First while New Mexicans are Dead Last. Dead last for childhood health, poverty, literacy, violent crime, and first for late-term abortion. The remainder of the Democrat leaders in Santa Fe either participated or ignored the pilfering of our public coffers and the young women that were trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein to his powerful friends at the Zorro Ranch in Santa Fe.

Rick Lopez, past Republican First-Vice Chairman, loudly announce to large and small crowds, "Republicans, We Ride for the Brand." The Republican Brand is: We protect those that do not have a voice, the unborn, old, and infirmed. We believe it is our responsibility to keep our neighborhoods safe. That all children deserve an education that prepares them for a bright future. We put New Mexicans first, not last. We defend the constitution and our country. We proudly declare God Bless America and God Bless Americans. That is our Brand and that is what unites us.

This year we had our Mack dump truck and trailer stolen and we recovered them. We had two equipment trailers and Albuquerque Police Department recovered one. We had our Mustang skid-steer loader stolen and it was recovered on Monday by the New Mexico State Police. As old Magruff said crime is taking a bite out of all of us.
