One of the undeniable truths of life is that liberals are hypocrites. As a group, they tend to be the ones that live out the mantra, "do as I say not as I do." Understand, that when I say this, I am talking more about how this manifests itself by putting regulations and laws upon society by which they feel like they do not have to abide. It is easy to find examples of this in the political arena but surprisingly, it's also easy to find right here in our community among those that we may call friends or acquaintances.

I have several friends and acquaintances that are clearly on the left side of the aisle. They strongly support Governor Lujan-Grisham's actions in locking down our economy and society to try and prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. Most of them have either told me personally or posted on social media that we need to abide by the stay at home orders and closing businesses that are not necessary. Apparently, they believe that applies to us and not them. One of the things I enjoy about my office location is the huge windows and the fact that I get to observe much of what goes on around us.

Unlike those that love to criticize conservatives, I can provide specific examples. One of the nuances about the governor's restrictions deals with trips outside of the home. Going shopping should be limited to a single person. Yet, I have watched a half dozen couples walking down to the store each day as they normally do. Doesn't this put other people at risk by exposing them to more people? Oh, that's right, liberals are wearing masks, gloves, washing their hands, and they really care about their fellow man.

Many of our downtown businesses are closed as they are not on the Governor's "essential" list. Yet, I can name several businesses that are operating, albeit clandestinely. I have watched one business owner go by my office to the store and meet people who desire the services and products this retail business provides. Make no mistake the lights in the front of the building are off but I have watched people come and go every day. I have also watched other businesspeople, who lecture on social media about obeying the restrictions, at their places of business each day violating that about which they preach.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in their hearts they do care about their fellow man and want them to be safe. Neither do they want to get sick. They probably have the same concerns about the survival of their business as everyone else, which leads them to engage in the behavior that they want everyone else to avoid. It proves one of the other undeniable truths of life, liberals do not trust the general population to do what is right. Liberals believe that others are not capable of behaving in the way that they themselves do, which justifies putting these laws and regulations into place.

Nor am I saying there aren't conservatives breaking the rules. There are, but one difference is that conservatives don't believe the rules are justified and that no one should be subjected to the severe restrictions that are currently in place, especially on small businesses. Liberals only exempt themselves.

And that is why we are a country trending towards the rule of man and away from the rule of law.
