(Courtesy Photo)Gila/Mimbres Community Radio (GMCR) and KURU 89.1 FM will hold a Membership Drive and Showcase of Local Talent Thursday-Saturday, April 11-13, 2019. Carolyn Smith, Chair of the radio station’s Board of Directors, said “This fundraiser and membership drive will highlight live performances and conversations with musicians, poets, activists, elected officials, and hosts of KURU’s many fine locally produced programs, along with many of the regularly scheduled programs that have made the station such a valued resource for the community. Visitors to the station will be welcomed to an open house with delicious refreshments and gracious hospitality.”

GMCR and KURU broadcast music, news and public affairs, cultural and educational topics, and commentary, with Spanish-language in addition to English programming. Locally produced programs include Earth Matters, Local Flavor, Roots and Branches, Jazz from the Gila, Rambling Radio Revival, Mitchellaneous, Travelers in the Night, Use Your Words, Today’s Healthy Community – and more!

For more than five years, KURU has been broadcasting quality local and national programs 24 hours/day at 10,500 watts. GMCR aims to add 100 new members and raise $25,000 to sustain the station’s development and service to Grant County and beyond, offering A Voice and A Choice to Southwest New Mexico.
