SILVER CITY-Each year the Spurs 4-H Club in Cliff, NM holds a fundraiser called the “pig plop” at the Grant County Fair. This year a winner was not awarded as the pig didn’t “plop” on a purchased square. Therefore, the club decided that instead of keeping the award money they would donate it to Wreaths Across America. The club has donated to Wreaths Across America for the past 3 years. The first year they purchased 15 wreaths, in 2018 they donated 33. As a result of the members of the club voting to use all of the pig plop award money to purchase wreaths, this year they were able to purchase 121 wreaths. The club membership is made up of youth in the Cliff, NM area that are ages 5-18 years old. The members that were present on Friday, December 13, to help place the wreaths were: Tucker Gatlin, Ally Massengill, Tucker Goar, Zola Brown, Emma Smith, Ashtyn and Hayli McDowell and Amery Jackson. Amery Jackson and Tucker Goar also helped to lead the pledge of allegiance at the dedication ceremony on Saturday, December 14.

Lela Goar, Spurs 4-H Club Leader stated “this has become a very emotional tie for the members of the Spurs 4-H Club. Each year they do their best to donate as much money as they can to try to buy enough wreaths so each headstone has a wreath. When placing the wreaths, the kids get very upset when there are not enough wreaths and it has made an impact on them.”
