NMF&LB President Craig Ogden, presents Cindy Lee with her award alongside NMAITC Director Traci Curry. Cindy Lee, a science teacher at Snell Middle School, was named as the New Mexico Ag in the Classroom Teacher of the Year at the recent annual meeting of the New Mexico Farm & Livestock Bureau. For 26 years Cindy has taught about the careers available in the field of science, including those that involve agriculture. She does this through the practical examples of raising strawberries in a greenhouse and caring for chickens. The greenhouse and chicken coop were obtained from grants that she wrote and received. Cindy takes advantage of opportunities to take her students to the Grant County Fair and has participated in yearly Ag Career events at NMSU and the Southern New Mexico State Fair in Las Cruces. She has attended many Ag in the Classroom workshops through her years of teaching, including a trip to Mexico and the National Ag in the Classroom Workshop when it was held in Albuquerque. 

“We’re honored to recognize Ms. Lee for incorporating agriculture in her classroom as one way to engage with students while teaching them where their food comes from,” says Traci Curry, NMAITC Director. “She does an amazing job of making sure they understand the hard work of local farmers and ranchers.”
