GREENVILLE, SC (09/16/2020)-- Douglas Stone, a resident of Silver City, has been named to the Bob Jones University Bruins men's cross country team roster for the 2020-2021 academic year. Stone is a Sophomore majoring in Orchestral Instrument Performance at BJU.

The Bruins cross country teams are ready for the upcoming season as the teams released their 2020 schedule. Last season, the men's team won their fourth-straight NCCAA DII National Championship while the women's team finished 2nd over all at nationals. This season, the Bruins will look to once again contend for the national title.

"We are looking forward to getting back to racing this fall," Bruins Head Cross Country Coach Landon Bright said. "This group we have coming in is going to be competitive in every meet we go to, so I am excited to see how we progress throughout the year. There is a chance that we add some meets or take some off, but the great thing about cross country is that it's all about adapting to your circumstances."

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bruins had their track and field season cut short. The ongoing concerns have caused several conferences and divisions in NCAA and NAIA levels to forgo the fall season. Still, the Bruins have a slate of meets that will challenge them as they compete.

The teams opened the 2020 season at the SWU Warrior Invite at Southern Wesleyan University on September 12. The team also hopes to contend for the NCCAA South Region title as they host the Bruins Invite on October 31 in Greenville, South Carolina.

The NCCAA DII National Championship meet will once again be hosted in Branson, Missouri, on November 14. The men's team hopes to continue their dominant streak of national championships while the women's team will look to win their first national title.

Bob Jones University will enter provisional status as an NCAA DIII program this fall. The Bruins feature 12 varsity programs and over 175 student-athletes.
