Kiwanis Club of Silver City longtime active club member and Past President, Alma Carson, has been elected to the position of Vice-Governor of the Kiwanis Southwest District. The job of Vice Governor is new and in its 3 year. The main responsibility of this position is to be the liaison with Kiwanis Service Leadership Partners (SLPs) consisting of: Key Club (High School); Circle K (Universities and Colleges); Builder's Club (Middle School); K-Kids (Elementary School), and Aktion Club (Adults with Developmental Disabilities). In addition, Alma will work closely with the  Administrators and  throughout the year, dedicate her involvement with SLP projects and encourage individual Kiwanis members to learn about and work closely with the members of the Service Leadership Partners at all levels. As Kiwanis Southwest District Vice Governor, Alma serves on the Southwest District Board, the Executive Board, and will work closely with the Governor and the Governor Elect. In 2 years, Alma will be eligible to serve as SWD Governor. 

The Kiwanis Southwest District was organized on October 12, 1918 in El Paso, Texas and was comprised of three clubs consisting of El Paso, Texas, Phoenix, Arizona, and Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Kiwanis International celebrated it's 100th Anniversary of serving children in 2015. The Kiwanis Club of Silver city was chartered and has been active since August 8, 1946. 

Besides being known for Kiwanis work locally, Alma and Bob Carson are the owners of Carson Insurance Agency in Silver City. In addition, Alma has also served in the Gila Regional Medical Center Board of Directors, and was the first woman to be elected as  Kiwanis Division 7 Lt. Governor covering Silver City, Deming, Las Cruces, and most recently, Soccoro County.
