Pictured is the new parklet The Town of Silver City received funding from the New Mexico Department of Tourism’s Clean and Beautiful Program for three separate projects. The Town of Silver City was one of thirty-seven communities in the state to receive funding this past year to develop and enhance beautification and recycling initiatives. 

The projects were implemented by three different organizations. They include the Youth Mural Program for installation of a tile mural on the restroom building at the Main Street Plaza in cooperation with Silver City MainStreet, Gila Native Plant Society for improvements to the Silva Creek Botanical Garden, and Constructavision LLC is built a parklet on the corner of Yankie and Texas Streets that is a private/public partnership. 

The mural on the Main Street Plaza restroom building acknowledges the rare riparian habitat we have in the middle of Silver City and is colorful and beautiful as well as interpretive. The new parklet at the corner of Texas and Yankie Streets provides a beautiful place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee downtown.

The planter boxes are completed covered in a mural designed by Jean Robert Beffort with native plants planted. Many improvements were made to the Silver Creek Botanical Garden including new plantings, a large pergola, plant signage and more. 

Silver City MainStreet served as the program coordinator for the Town. We invite the public to go and see these new assets in our community.
