bill 1Long time Rotarian Bill Harrison and the Silver City Rotary Club celebrated Harrison's 99th birthday on June 22, 2021. It also would have been his 74th wedding anniversary with his now deceased wife, Marjorie. Bill and Marjorie had married on his 25th birthday, and had celebrated their anniversary and his birthday with the Rotary Club for 37 years, until Marge passed away four years ago.  

Before moving to Silver City in 1969, Harrison had worked as City Manager in Oklahoma, Texas and Alaska. He was City Manager in Seward, Alaska during the earthquake of 1964 and was in charge of the disaster relief.

Harrison was City Manager in Silver City in 1969-72 and held numerous and varied civic positions. For a time, he was also owner and manager of the original Murray Hotel.

Harrison was the Silver City Rotary President in 1988-1989. He has two daughters and one son.

When asked which place he had lived in was his favorite, he replied “Silver City because it has the best climate, the best food, and the very best people”.

The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday for lunch in the Sunset Room of the WNMU Student Cafeteria. The club welcomes members of the public to the meetings. Guests are asked to contribute $10 for a hot lunch with salad, dessert and coffee.

Since its founding in 1923, the Silver City Rotary Club has provided support and service to numerous non-profit organizations and civic causes in Silver City and Grant County as well as supporting and participating in humanitarian projects sponsored by Rotary International.
