2021 hms scholarshipsFour area students have been awarded 2021 HMS Scholarships in their pursuit of careers or degrees in healthcare filed. The HMS scholarship is open to eligible high school students in both Hidalgo and Grant Counties. Recipients included:

Baylee Motes

HMS Scholarship recipient, Baylee Motes, is a 2021 graduate of Cliff High School will be attending NMSU this fall with a major in Kinesiology with plans to pursue a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy.

Baylee is a sports enthusiast and has participated in rodeo, basketball and track. Her experience has shown her the difficulties faced when recovering from injuries. Baylee wants to open her own practice in Silver City with a focus on rehabilitation for sports injuries. In addition, she wishes to give back to her community and work with programs at Cliff and Silver High Schools, including WNMU.

Madison Miller

Madison Miller, a 2021 graduate of Lordsburg High School, is combining her love and interest of sports and science to pursue a major in Exercise Science and become a Physical Therapist. Madison wants to learn as much as she can about the body, to improve the quality of life for others sitting on the sidelines because of an injury. She will be attending school at Brigham Young University – Provo.

Mya Alizae Teran

Mya Alizae Teran, a 2021 graduate of Silver High School, will be attending NMSU this Fall to pursue a Nursing Degree. Mya has received a Certificate of Completion in the CAN program at WNMU by achieving dual enrollment in her senior year. Since Mya was very young, she has shared a passion to be in service to those who need medical assistance. She plans to use her scholarship funds to purchase books that allow her to learn as much she can about the medical field. Mya’s long-term goal is to become a Doctor.

AngaLeena Jarvis

AngaLeena Jarvis, a 2021 graduate of Animas High School, will be attending Eastern Arizona College this Fall to pursue a career in Nursing. AngaLeena, while researching different careers, discovered that nursing has all the elements of a fulfilling career while helping others. She has not decided on a specific field of nursing at this time, but her studies will reveal which field to choose in the future. She plans on becoming a Licensed Nursing Assistant before she earns her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. While obtaining her degree, AngaLeena plans on working in a small clinic.
