Judge Edmund Brandt, art professor at WNMU, awarded prizes for Best of Show, and Ribbons in two categories—wall hung and freestanding. Best of Show was awarded to Annabella Gomez for her whimsical paper mache sculpture “Spirit Guide Coatimundi.” In the wall-hung category, first place went to Vickie Gadberry for framed mini-quilted “Blue Raven.”

Placing 2nd was Mimi Garten for her photograph “Coyote in the Rain.” The third place ribbon went to Elroy Limmer for his hummingbird photo “Leave Some for Me.” 

In the freestanding category, 1st place was awarded to Anita McDaniel for her hand hooked footstool “Then Thar Be Gila Monsters." The 2nd place winner was Kathleen (Leeny) Forbes for her re(Constructed) and Painted Organic Materials, “Earth Walking Pollinators.”  Margaret Streams placed third for her mixed media sculpture “Ruffled Blue Heron.” These prize-winning works, plus many others, will be shown through Sept 19, so you still have plenty of time to catch the show.

The Grant County Art Guild Annex is located at 106 E Market Street in Silver City NM. Show hours are 10-5 on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays.) Weekday hours are noon-5. Extended hours of 10-5 will be held during the River Festival (Sept 16-19.) This show is an official Gila River event.
