These timeless, overarching principles keep the DAR strong and vitally relevant in this ever-changing world. Recognition of Cecilia Bell for Excellence in Historic Preservation embodies all aspects of the DAR mission. She received the award from the Jacob Bennett Chapter of the DAR in Silver City, New Mexico.

The Excellence in Historic Preservation Certificate and Medal award recognizes the efforts of outstanding individuals who promote historic preservation in myriad ways. The recognition honors individuals that have saved their local history, including restoration of buildings, collections, significant objects, monuments, cemeteries and other important artifacts. Bell has worked tirelessly for years to promote the preservation and renovation of Fort Bayard, located in Santa Clara, New Mexico. She is a founding member of the Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society and served as the organizations President for many years.

Bell is also very involved with researching and sharing information about Fort Bayard. She guides visitors through the Fort Bayard Museum and around the grounds of the fort. She is also the recipient of the Bradford Prince Award for Historic Preservation from the Historical Society of New Mexico.

A woman, eighteen years or older who has an ancestor who contributed to the American Revolution, either in the military or by assisting military operations is eligible to join DAR. The DAR is one of the fastest growing service organizations in the country. When you join the DAR you are honoring your patriot who contributed to the founding of the United States of America.

If you have an interest in joining the Silver City Chapter of the DAR, contact Vice Regent, Lucy Whitmarsh at 575-574-8394 or whitmarshlucy@gmail.com.
