Community Collaboration Meeting Minutes
August 4, 2022
Attendees: Karen Hymer, Rhonda Munzinger, Lee Gruber, Alexandra Tager, Peter Fishburn, Bryan Hyde, Marcia Tinker, Karen Beckenbach, Kristen Warnack, Eric Ockerhansen, Lillian Galloway, Ted Presler, David Chapman, Brenda Tozier, and Charmeine Wait.

Guest Presenter: Karen Hymer and Rhonda Munzinger - Silver City Arts Association – Three main events. The Studio Tour has Studios, galleries, and artists. September 2nd from 5-7PM there is a reception at the Light Art Space. On September 3 from 10-5 and Sunday 11-4 is the Studio Tour.
Weekend of the Galleries is October 7-9 and is the 24th year for this event. Friday at 10AM is a Silent Auction. 4PM there is a reception at Light Art Space and 7PM for the Print Fiesta. The fundraiser for the silent auction starts September 9th and you can start bidding then (or buy outright) and will go through to the Friday October 7. There will be seven artists creating art for the fundraising event. The Silver City Arts Association booklet features 25 artists and can be picked up in 18 visitor centers in NM, Arizona, and Texas. MainStreet Report:
Love Local will be Saturday September 3 and we have 27 merchants signed up for deals, drawings, and more.

Silco Theatre Report: Charmeine –We are booking more events, kid's summer movie program, and the Film club is keeping the Silco very busy. New sound system has been purchased to help create a wonderful event space.

Visitor Center Report: David – Though the visitor center was not as busy as we would have liked, our visitor counts for July were 12% higher than last year's. We had 1,260 visitors, averaging about 41 people per day for the month compared to 1,121 last year.

With the help of Charmeine, we have installed three security cameras to help
monitor and document suspicious activities and incidents in and around our building.

We now have new sculptures donated by Ho Baron. A bronze chest sculpture now sits with the other two statues in our lobby. The Statues have always been
an intriguing addition to our lobby. They fascinate children and we have had a
few visitors immediately recognize Ho's work and excitedly rush out to see his
other sculptures in our back courtyard.

I think the last to note, Mainstreet's Taste of Downtown Coupon books are for
sale (cash or check) at the visitor center desk as well as picking up the coupon
books that anyone can order online.

Discussion:

Eric Ockerhausen Grant County Art Guild - The theme for the August windows at the Grant County Art Guild Gallery is Gifts from the Monsoons: Southwestern Flowers and Skies with more sky and flowers throughout the Gallery. Miranda of Mountain and Pine will also have a window to showcase her artisan work in leather and Pendleton wool.
The Gallery will be a part of the First Friday event on August 5 from 5 to 7 in addition to our regular hours of 10 to 5 every day.
The Creatures of the Gila Art show opening reception is Friday, September 2 in the Annex from 4 to 6 pm. The show runs from September 2 to the 18 and we will post the show hours on our website later.

September 23-24 and 25 the Grant County Art Guild is hosting "Painting Grant County " Plein Air Paint Out. The registration fee is $25 and for more information or to register, email annex@gcag.org
The Paint Out is open to everyone, and we are bringing in a judge from out of town. The Paint Out paintings will be shown at the Visitor Center through October. There will be prizes for Best in Show and for 2 Awards of Distinction.
The judge for the Paint Out, Barbara Mulleneaux, will hold a three-day workshop while she is in Silver City. The workshops are on September 19-20 and 21 from 8 to 4. Cost for the workshop is $325 and you can register or get more information at annex@gcag.org

The Grant County Art Guild has added refrigerated air to our Annex Space. This was done in time to cool the space for Susie Meskill's Exhibition during the Clay Festival. The addition of refrigerated air will make the space much better for classes, workshops, and other events that people will want to hold in the Annex.

The Annex hosts the Art Plus More pop-ups on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. If you want to be a vendor in our refrigerated air space, contact annex@gcag.org
Everyone is welcome to stop in and see what we have for sale because it is Art Plus More so you will have a variety.

The Open Studio is every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 10 to 1. Everyone is welcome to drop in and meet other creative people from Silver City and other places. Bring a project to work on and if you don't have a project we have basic art supplies available for use.

Peter Fishburn Volunteer for many orgs – Silver City Community Theatre – MaryAnn Marlar is looking for more people who want to work behind the scenes, stage help, and actors. maryann@silvercitycommunitytheatre.com On October 30 with wendy@silvercitycommunitytheatre.com there will be a radio reading of War of the Worlds on KURU. Auditions from 2-4 at the Oasis Coffee House on August 13 for the Giver.
End of the Road Horse Ranch needs volunteers for grooming or anything you would like to do. Contact Peter at 505-715-7542 location is at the end of the road on Mountainview.

Kristen Warnack Little Toad Brewery – They have a new Kitchen manager that is doing well. Lots of local bands this month such as Lottie & the Ohm Wreckers and Rendezvous. On August 19 there is a memorial for Nancy Kaminski and will feature Rhythm Mystic; Famous Raymos; The Roadrunners; Kas, Brandon & Friends. Virus Theatre next play will be Romeo & Juliet. September 6 and 7 from 4-6 auditions will be held at the El Sol Theatre.

Karen Beckenbach GCCCA – Friday, August 26 Billy Townes Jazz Quartet who was the pianist from the Diamonds Let's Rock Broadway show will play at the Fine Arts Theatre at 7PM. www.gcconcerts.org

Marcia Tinker Mimbres Regional Arts Council – They are working on ideas for music, theater, art, and festivals.
Southwest Women's Fiber Arts Collective's Holiday Fiber Art sale will be in October with the Weekend at the Galleries at the Murray Hotel Ballroom. There will be food vendors in the lobby. They are looking at holding classes and a fashion show.

Bryan Hyde – Working on MainStreet and Silco branding. T-shirts he designed are sold at the Market Place.

Ted Presler Southwest Word Fiesta Co-Chair – New website should be done by the 15th of the month. Check it out at swwordfiesta.org. It will be bilingual, have a bookshelf to add your books to, podcasts, poetry, book reviews, Bruce's corner, and what is happening in Silver City.

Bernadette Smyth Grant County Community Foundation – New website in the works. It is their 10-year anniversary. More grants are coming out and the Give Grandly was a huge success. She has information about a company who is looking for people to learn how to be on a board. Right now, it is free and you need to be able to commit 2 hours via Zoom weekly for five months.

Lillian Galloway Silver City Public Library – They just wrapped up the summer program that is building back with a lot more in-person events. They are focused on youth and children programs and still have the Storytime and baby time. Tuesday Sept. 9 at 3PM is an event for adults called Demystifying the Mystery Writing Workshop that will be via Zoom in at the library. On August 16 at 3PM is an Author Talk from Ron Hamm about New Mexico Heroines of the Twentieth Century. For a full list of events go to: https://silvercitypubliclibrary.org/

Lee Gruber SWNMACT – Clay Festival was a huge success with 40 kids attending and all workshops/lectures full. Looking at making Clay a year-round item. The 5-points initiative links the mining district with Silver City. Silver City has the Waterworks building and hopes to see the camping sites used by locals and the CDT hikers. Zocalo in Arenas Valley is another point, and they have many plants and are working on outdoor music. The Union Hall in Bayard they are hoping to make a mining museum. The Hurley train station is hoping to be made into a train museum. And in Santa Clara is the Bradley Hotel.

Alexandra Tager WNMU Cultural Affairs – Back Together Bash will be on August 19 and 20 and is a 2-night concert with food trucks, music, and beer gardens. The 19th will be country music and the 20th Latin music. The season program rack cards are at the printers and will be out soon. On October 6 is a Scottish Contemporary/traditional band.
