The Literacy Link-Leamos  program ended  July with distributing more than 400 books to elementary-aged students at Cobre Schools Summer Fest event. This was a well-attended day of fun and free giveaways for our friends in the Mining District. What a great way to start the school year!

Our project at SPIN (Supporting People in Need) is still going, with a few tutor and learner matches who are working together to study and pass the High School Equivalency test. We also have ongoing basic literacy skills instruction offered every Friday at the shelter.

We are currently seeking volunteer tutors who would like to tutor Adult and Elementary students at The Bayard Public Library, and we can reimburse those tutors for mileage.

We are also recruiting volunteer tutors who would like to teach English as a second Language, Basic Reading, High School Equivalency preparation, and Basic computer skills.

If you or anyone you know is a retired educator, has a little free time and would like to help someone improve their literacy skills, please contact Kim Godfrey at Literacy Link Leamos located inside of The Silver City Public Library at 515 W. College Ave, Silver City, NM., 88061- Office Hours are Tuesday -10am-12-pm and 2pm to 5pm. 575-388-089 (Office hours are subject to change)
