We are very grateful for such generous community support.”

“Virus Theater and Aldo Leopold Middle School’s theatre classes each received checks for $250 and Starlight Theater received a large screen for integrating visual projections into live performances valued at $250. Performances by these three programs were the highlight of the Gala,” Wellman said.

“SCCT’s Drama Camp for 6- to 10-year-olds will take place during local schools’ spring break, March 13-17, and will culminate with a performance on Saturday the 18th for family and friends,” according to SCCT Artistic Director and Camp Director, Wendy Spurgeon.

“Our philosophy is that every child is an artist and an actor, and through theatre, they have a chance to explore their wild imaginations and appreciate their own creativity.

“For information about the Camp, to register a student or to apply to teach, go to www.silvercitycommunitytheater.com

“We’re building a teaching team of talented, heartfelt actors/instructors. They will take a small group of students ages 6 to10 on imaginary trips to 6 different continents in an engaging week of drama skills and exploration. Students will learn about different countries and how stories change from culture to culture. They will prepare a final performance for family and friends.

“It is SCCT’s objective to enrich rural New Mexico through performance arts and trainings for adults and youth,” Spurgeon notes. “And, this camp, a part of The SCCT Youth Theatre Project, is an exciting step in that direction.

“The Drama Camp will take place during local schools’ spring break: Monday, March 13 through Friday the 17, from 9 am to 3 pm at Oasis Coffee and Tea House, 714 N. Bullard St, downtown Silver City, NM.

“The last day to register is March 10th, 2023. For registration form, schedule, curriculum, or other questions go to www.silvercitycommunitytheater.com.  Camp tuition is $249; financial aid is available.”
