t Now > Arte Chicano 2020, or directly at www.artechicano.online. (http
s://www.artechicano.online. ) \nThis is a virtual iteration of the annual A
rte Chicano exhibit celebrating local Chicano artists. which participants f
ound has not limited the creative possibilities but expanded them. It was r
eleased at 11:59pm on December 31, making sure that “2020 ended on a positi
ve note.”\n“This is one of the most important exhibits the museum presents,
” says Museum Director Bart Roselli.\nThe interactive Arte Chicano website
includes photos and videos of the works and the gallery, and interviews wit
h featured artists Chris Alvarez (oil painting) and Buck Burns (mixed media
) explaining their work, as well as guest curator Diana Ingalls Leyba talki
ng about conceiving and putting together the exhibit.\nJoin Examining Arte
Chicano, a panel discussion. Click here (https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/re
gister/WN_AW9g9TV9T_uLsBeSGVGPOQ) , or Join Meeting in Zoom and enter Meeti
ng ID 858 6712 2025. \nModerated by Museum Educator Erin Griffith, the pan
el discussion will primarily focus on artists’ Buck Burns, Chris Alvarez, a
nd Guest Curator Diana Ingalls Leyba and the impact of the artists’ Chicano
heritage on their art. We will also examine the work of some of the other
Chicano artists that may have influenced or interested them throughout thei
r careers such as Danny Griego, Fred Barraza and Catalina Delgado-Trunk and
compare individual pieces.\nBuck Burns is a well-known local multimedia ar
tist, actor, and co-owner of Manzanita Ridge. His bold use of color and exp
ressionistic style is influenced in large part by Mexican folk art and ofte
n draws from the traditions and style of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dea
d) as well as other Mexican Catholic iconography and symbolism.\nChris grew
up in Silver City, New Mexico where his artistic eye thrived in the magica
l light of our environment. His work is well known in Southwest NM for its
romantic depiction of “ordinary” scenery. He now teaches and has a gallery
in Colorado Springs.\n“Both artists are immensely talented and prolific; an
d it was great fun to hang the work in the ‘big’ gallery this year,” Leyba
says.\nThe Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visit
ors to explore, understand, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural her
itage of southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching, an
d interpreting the region's unique history. It is nationally recognized thr
ough its accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums.\n\n\n
