SUMMARY:“A Unitarian Universalist Easter Celebration,” at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City
LOCATION:3845 N Swan Street
DESCRIPTION:Reverend Claudia Elferdink will look to Asia, Europe and the United States
to answer a question: “How do Unitarians and Universalists celebrate Easter
?”\nFor a religious community that has no creed, this is an intriguing ques
tion. Elferdink will talk about the beliefs and practices of people from th
e Philippines, Northern Ireland, England, Transylvania and across the Unite
d States, including Silver City.\n“For a tradition centered on heart and mi
nd, faith and science we will get a look at how Easter is celebrated in rad
ically different cultures. With a deeper look, will we find Unitarians and
Universalists are surprisingly similar, or not?” Elferdink said.\n“Since th
e 1600s Unitarians have been marking Easter Sunday. In the last two centuri
es it has become controversial, especially in some congregations in the U.S
. My international U/UU research may reveal some surprises.” She added.\nRe
 v. Claudia Elferdink is a retired Unitarian Universalist minister living in
Silver City with her spouse John Egnal, their adult children and five gran
dchildren. She studied at UC Santa Barbara, the College of Wooster in Ohio,
Antioch Graduate School of Education in Philadelphia and Harvard Divinity
School. She served congregations in Massachusetts and Connecticut.\nShe is
a published historian focusing her research on uncovering Unitarian Women w
hose lives and work crossed international borders. Currently Elferdink is a
Coordinator of the “Reckoning International Unitarian and Universalist His
tories Project.” She collaborates with Rev. Dr. Lehel Molnar, the Archivist
at the Unitarian Archives in Kolozsvar, now commonly called Cluj, Romania.
\nWe may have the back door open and ceiling fans going, so please bring a
jacket to stay warm if needed. The patio speakers are now installed, so peo
ple may sit outside and hear the service if they wish. \nUUFSC Safety Proto
col as pursuant to our most recent UUA Guidelines:\nWe will not be serving
food or drinks in the building until further notice. Masks will still need
to be worn at all times indoors and out, except when eating or drinking. We
will continue to serve refreshments on the patio, weather permitting. Visi
 tors are always welcome.\n
