SUMMARY:"The Change Game,” at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
LOCATION:3845 N Swan Street
DESCRIPTION:Jeff Goin of the Lotus Center will address the idea of changing our interna
l habits. Humans are creatures of habit. They are habituated to their morni
ng, daily, and monthly routines.\n“Noteworthy is that when we talk about ou
r habits and routines, we are typically referring to our external routines:
where we go, what we do, and when we do it. What we often don't consider a
re our internal habits, our emotional habits. Many of us are also habituate
d to responding to certain events with certain emotions; to the extent that
we perceive an external event as negative, our associated, habitual feelin
g will also be negative, and painful,” Goin said.            \n“What if we
could establish a new habit, one that started with changing our perception
of a certain type of event from negative to neutral, or even positive? Doin
g so would also change our habituated feeling response from negative to neu
tral, or even positive. What an exciting prospect to consider,” he continue
 d.  \nJeff Goin has been teaching and leading non-denominational meditation
in Silver City, on a volunteer basis, since 2008. His classes provide prac
tical ideas and methods for improving relationships, overcoming anger, deal
ing with stress and, in general, establishing and maintaining a peaceful st
ate of mind.  Goin is the founder of Lotus Center, and a co-founder of Sing
le Socks, a non-profit thrift store that has donated hundreds of thousands
of dollars to anti-hunger programs in Grant County. He has been a practicin
g Buddhist since 1999.\nThere are speakers on the patio if you wish to enjo
y the service outside.\nThis Sunday there will be a Children’s Religious Ed
ucation program. Parents are invited to bring children four years old and a
bove to attend youth-led classes. Ninth grader Ivy Stephens-Etheridge, a fo
rmer CRE student, will read a story and lead a lesson on the theme of “Lett
ing Go” this Sunday.\nUUFSC Safety Protocol as pursuant to our most recent
UUA Guidelines:\nWe will not be serving food or drinks in the building unti
l further notice. Masks will still need to be worn at all times indoors and
out, except when eating or drinking. We will continue to serve refreshment
s on the patio, weather permitting. Visitors are always welcome.\nThe Unita
rian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City is a diverse group of religious
independents seeking knowledge, spiritual sustenance, fellowship and oppor
