DESCRIPTION:Ashley Smith, Registrar and Collections Manager for the Silver City Museum,
  will give a general overview of the life and work of Anita Scott Coleman, 
 a New Mexico writer who participated in the Harlem Renaissance and was a ke
 y figure in the African American community.\n“Coleman was a unique voice wh
 o did not shy away from discussing the psychological damage of America's ra
 cial policies, sexism, gender, and marriage,” Smith said.  “Looking at Cole
 man’s life and work, as part of a community that has flown mostly under the
  radar, will be enlightening.” \nAshley M. Smith is originally from Salt La
 ke City, Utah, where she attended the University of Utah, receiving her B.A
 . in History in 2000.  She interned at the Utah State Historical Society’s 
 Preservation Planning Department in 2002, which led her to the Public Histo
 ry Program at Arizona State University.  She graduated with a double M.A. i
 n American History, where she focused on the History of women; and Public H
 istory, where she focused on Museum and Collections Management. During that
  time, she was an intern at the Arizona Historical Society. \nSmith graduat
 ed in 2005 and returned to Utah where she worked at the Utah Museum of Fine
  Art under their Conservator; and at the Park City Historical Society and M
 useum as a Curatorial Assistant.  She then returned to the Arizona Historic
 al Society, where she became Registrar from 2007 until 2018 at the Phoenix 
 Division.  During that time, Smith also worked part-time, helping at a hist
 orical property, Sahuaro Ranch Park, in Glendale, Arizona.  In 2018 she mov
 ed to Silver City and is now the Registrar and Collections Manager for the 
 Silver City Museum.   \nThere are speakers on the patio if you wish to enjo
