Boycott of Russian and Saudi Arabian Oil Would Protect New Mexico’s Workers from Foreign Countries Working to Manipulate Energy Markets

Albuquerque – Energy advocacy group Power The Future called on all members of the New Mexico congressional delegation to support strict boycotts on energy imports from Russia and Saudi Arabia on Monday. Currently, those two countries make up 12% of America’s oil imports. This must end in order to help protect over 100,000 New Mexico energy jobs.

Foreign countries are taking advantage of a public health emergency by flooding the world market with oil. The move is a clear effort to seize market share and put New Mexico’s energy companies out of business.

“Our congressional delegation needs to support this common-sense idea to stand up to foreign nations who manipulate the energy market in order to harm New Mexicans,” said Larry Behrens, Western States Director for Power The Future. “Make no mistake, once they seize control of a larger market share, these bad actors will set the price for oil and they don’t care what New Mexico families will be forced to pay. New Mexico’s elected leaders need to protect our jobs and economy and they need to do it now.”

An astounding 3.28 million Americans, including nearly 17,000 from New Mexico, recently filed for unemployment.
