Albuquerque – As lawmakers get ready for a special session to address New Mexico's budget deficit, Power The Future is calling on them to oppose any proposal to increase the tax on gasoline. During the most recently completed legislative session, radical environmental groups pushed a massive increase in the tax on gasoline from 17 cents per gallon to 47 cents.

"Forcing New Mexico's families to pay more for gas should not be considered a solution to fix Santa Fe's budget problems," said Larry Behrens, Western States Director for Power The Future. "Our top priority during the special session should be New Mexicans who are struggling to get back to work, not with radical environmentalists who have plenty to spend on political contributions but do nothing to help our budget," he continued.
