Albuquerque – For at least the second time during the campaign, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham will take part in an event held by "Clean Energy for Biden" on Thursday. Governor Lujan Grisham will be joined at the event by Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Gavin Newsom and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for the virtual event hosted in New York.

"Joe Biden told the world he wants to get rid of the oil industry and it's abhorrent that our own Governor agrees," said Larry Behrens, Western States Director for Power The Future. "Governor Lujan Grisham has delivered massively high unemployment along with the fewest energy jobs in a decade, so it's clear why she is working so hard to get a new job. She simply doesn't want to have to look New Mexico's energy workers in the eye and be accountable."

Background:

New Mexico and California's unemployment rates are among the worst in the nation ranking 44th and 49th respectively. In fact, the average unemployment rate for the Governors participating in the event is 9.2 percent, well above the U.S. average of 7.9 percent.

In speaking to the U.S. Climate Alliance in September 2020, Governor Lujan Grisham said "We need to transition out of fossil fuels."
