The Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) has announced an unprecedented statewide voter registration challenge today as part of our goal to register more voters than ever before during the 2020 election cycle. With this challenge, DPNM aims to inspire county parties to expand voter registration efforts and increase democratic participation throughout New Mexico.

The DPNM Voter Registration Challenge will begin on September 1, 2019 and continue through the 2020 cycle. Each month, county parties will track voter registration numbers and compete to register the most people. Winners will be calculated based on percentage of registered voters to avoid giving larger counties an unfair advantage.

“The Democratic Party of New Mexico is excited to be encouraging a year-round focus on voter registration,” said DPNM Executive Director Chelsey Evans. “Democrats in New Mexico don’t just want to win in 2020. We want to build a culture of political activism and democratic participation that defines our state for years to come. After our historic victories in 2018, we’re seeing more enthusiasm than ever before from people who are new to the political process. Our county parties are eager to seize on that energy, and we’re thrilled to be giving them this opportunity to reach out to Democrats in every corner of New Mexico.”
