Supporter of Brook Bassan's Opponent Steals Bassan's Sign

Albuquerque, December 10--Brook Bassan's campaign this morning decided not to press charges against a man who was caught stealing one of Bassan's signs. Bassan is a registered Republican in today's District 4 City Councilor runoff election.

The theft took place near the Holly Plaza polling station in Northeast Albuquerque. One of Bassan's campaign volunteers noticed the man taking her sign and chased him down until police arrived. Police questioned the supporter of Bassan's opponent, Ane Romero, a registered Democrat, and asked Bassan's campaign whether it wanted to press charges.

"It’s disappointing that Romero's campaign is so desperate that they have resorted to this," said Megan McMillan, Bassan's campaign manager.

The Republican Party of New Mexico says this kind of behavior can't be tolerated.
"This is an example of why we need real election integrity," said Anissa Tinnin, Executive Director of the Republican Party of New Mexico. "It's sad when people have to turn to these unscrupulous tactics to make their point. Stealing, lying and cheating cannot be a part of our elections. The Republican Party of New Mexico will make it a priority to ensure that elections are fair in 2020 and that things like this don't happen in this state. There's no justification for this atrocious behavior."
