Roswell, NM- The New Mexico agriculture community is facing unprecedented uncertainty as the Governor's public health orders continue with no indication of decreased restrictions. County Fairs are no exception to the forced shutdown, leading to more than 2,000 New Mexicans, along with all 24 House Republican members to send the Governor a notice outlining their concerns.

New Mexico County Fairs are a vital part of life for rural communities, they represent multi-generational and family-oriented experiences that highlight New Mexico's agricultural economy. The fairs provide a unique opportunity for community members and children to participate in our state's agricultural heritage.

The letter encourages Governor Lujan Grisham to seriously consider modifying her standing orders to allow New Mexico's county fairs to explore operations as the summer wanes on. The Governor and her executive staff are asked to formulate a plan for county fairs to operate safely while observing and implementing all CDC guidelines.

"I strongly urge the Governor to reconsider how these public health orders are affecting our western way of life, county fairs are essential to our children's upbringing and encourage them to value New Mexico agriculture," said House Republican Caucus Chair Candy Ezzell (Roswell). "Over 2000 people signed onto this effort, but that is a drop in the bucket in terms of how many New Mexicans are touched by our state's agricultural heritage."
