The National Economy Added Just 559,000 Jobs in May as the Biden Administration Continues to Squander the Strong Economy It Inherited

Albuquerque, June 4—President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats' failed policies have again given us another month where the economy fell short of expectations.

For the second straight month America is adding fewer jobs than expected—20% fewer than economists forecast.

In May 20,000 construction jobs were lost, 5,800 retail jobs disappeared and the labor force participation rate dropped. Meantime, the number of Americans working part time for economic reasons rose.

We have not recovered 7.6 million or 34% of the jobs lost due to COVID, and 9.3 million Americans remain unemployed. In May nearly 8 million Americans were unable to work because their employer was closed or had lost the business due to the pandemic.

This is no surprise.

Democratic lockdown policies are having a lasting impact on our workers. More than 1.5 million mothers have dropped out of the workforce, and many working moms are forced to stay home because schools have not reopened.

States with Republican leadership are leading the recovery despite Biden's failed policies. Their states have reopened and economies are humming.

"The Democrats' policies are killing our workforce and driving up inflation. The price of gas, food and other essentials is soaring, and Americans are starting to see inflation that compares to the 1970s," said Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce. "Biden's restrictive actions are preventing Americans from getting back to work, and this is stalling any economic growth. This is exactly what's been happening here in New Mexico under Democratic leadership, and look at where we are today. Meanwhile, Republican-led states that are open for business are seeing growth, stability and are moving forward."

The Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) advances the ideals of individual liberties for the advancement of its citizens and the greater prosperity of our communities throughout New Mexico.
