Proposal Would Drive Already Skyrocketing Gas Prices Higher

Washington, D.C. – In the latest move to deflect responsibly for record-setting gas prices, some congressional Democrats want to further undermine American energy production with a brand new tax on oil. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI,) along with Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) are proposing a new tax on every barrel of oil produced within the United States. Their proposal would take the average price of oil from 2015-2019 and place a 50 percent tax on the current price which will ensure consumers have to pay for the massive cost increases during the Biden administration.

"Rather than learn from their past mistakes and change course, the eco left is doubling down on bad ideas," said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future. "Their constant demonization and harassment of our energy producers has driven gas prices to new highs with no end in sight. The pain at the pump that Americans are feeling is a direct result of the left's hostility toward domestic energy production. Make no mistake, the Biden Administration is responsible for the skyrocketing price of oil and it's pathetic these members of Congress now want our families to shell out even more money because of it. Keep in mind, this proposal is from the same politicians who voted for Putin's Pipeline and are now begging Iran and Venezuela to produce more oil while also seeking higher taxes on American energy producers."
