The federal executive branch has put out notice that it plans to "forgive" up to $10,000 of student debt for every student holding loans they took out for a college degree, and some up to $20,000.
Why should you or I, who did not have student debt or paid it off as soon as we could, pay through our taxes someone else's loans they took on, never thinking about how they were going to pay them off?
When you borrow money for whatever reason, to buy a home, to purchase a car or to go to college to study some useless degree, you have a responsibility to pay that loan off to the entity that you borrowed from. Granted some loans come through the federal government's loan programs, but you still agreed when you took out the loan that you would pay it off.
One course that should be taught in every school in America is financial literacy. My dad was an accountant and he sat me down at all ages to show me and teach me about money and how to manage it. I remember his lessons to this day.
Every young person, from elementary school onward, should be taught about how to manage money, their own money earned by doing chores, or later in life, the money in businesses they work for or own.
And what's really ridiculous about this governmental largesse is that it comes from an entity that is in debt itself. To what extent these days? It may be up around $30 Trillion. And I capitalize the T to point out the hugeness of the debt.
Who is on the hook to pay off that debt? You and I, the taxpayers, of course. And how many on welfare are we supporting as we work our fingers to the bone to make enough money to pay our grocery bills and to fill up our vehicles, so we can get to work or the grocery store?
Yes, I'm angry about this. Governmental handouts are already proven to lead to the inflation that is raising prices by the minute. And now the federal government wants to give away more money?
What could the reason behind this be?
Duh! Election season is right around the corner, and Democrats are running scared that those right-wing conservatives might beat them at the ballot box. That is, of course, only if the voting system is reliable and trustworthy. But that's another topic.
So, of course, paying off loans for the baristas with advanced degrees in sustainability or gender studies is a bribe to get them to vote for those who give them "free" money.
And for everyone who doesn't know it yet—money is not free. Freedoms are not free. Nothing in life is free. Get over it and take responsibility for yourself!
