ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—A new political ad targeting law enforcement and attacking Republican candidate for state House District 29 Greg Cunningham has appeared in the final days of the 2022 election. The ad's disclaimer says it was paid for by Speaker Egolf's political action committee, on behalf of Democrat candidate Joy Garratt.

Representative Rod Montoya (Farmington), House Minority Whip, had this to say in response: "At the last moment, as their closing argument for this campaign, Democrats have dropped the mask and shown us who they really are. They are attacking police officers and framing them as predators in a new ad attacking Greg Cunningham, a former Albuquerque police officer. This is disgusting, and it exposes who they really are."

"I call on Joy Garratt to disavow this horrendous attack on law enforcement. I call on Speaker Egolf's PAC, the responsible party, to take this ad down immediately and apologize to law enforcement all over the state for this blatant political attack on them. This is completely outrageous that they would try to score political points at the expense of the hardworking police officers of Albuquerque."

Jim Townsend (Artesia), House Minority Leader, was also vocal in his disgust. "It's a shameful display and shows contempt of law enforcement. Progressive Democrats have attacked law enforcement with every pro-crime bill they have passed in the House. To be this overt in their contempt exposes which side they're on, and it is not the side of the voters of New Mexico."
