March 6 at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street - "There is No Hierarchy of Oppressions”

Karen Benediktson will talk about how learning to continue to change our thinking and expressions of racism and the other “isms” can benefit us all. The title of this talk is taken from an essay written by Audre Lorde, poet, essayist, and activist (1934-1992).

“We'll use this essay as a bridge to explore intersectionality, which is the acknowledgement that everyone has their own unique experiences of discrimination and oppression and we must consider everything and anything that can marginalize people – gender, race, class, sexual orientation, physical ability, among other things,” Benediktson said.

Audre Lorde was an American writer, feminist, womanist, librarian, and civil rights activist. She was a self-described "black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet," who "dedicated both her life and her creative talent to confronting and addressing injustices of racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia." ~Wikipedia

The presenter, Karen Benediktson, has more than 60 years of life experience, much of which she has learned to see through the lens of intersectionality.

We may have the back door open and ceiling fans going, so please bring a jacket to stay warm.
