SUMMARY:“The Wisdom of Robert Frost,” at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City
LOCATION:3845 N Swan Street
DESCRIPTION:September 25, at 10 am, 3845 North Swan Street – “The Wisdom of Robert Fros
t”\nWhile the United States has always been more inclined towards business
than poetry, Robert Frost could probably lay claim to being our most popula
r and well-loved poet although most people are familiar with only a few of
his best-known poems. Dr. Pat Sterling will be exploring a few of his lesse
r known but still excellent short poems.\n“Although a modernist poet, Frost
preferred using traditional rhyme and meter, once famously stating that wr
iting in free verse was ‘like playing tennis with the net down.’  He was a
master of conveying his ideas with a minimum of words,” Sterling said.\nShe
added, “For example, consider how in just two lines, Frost is able to tell
us a great deal about the aging process: ‘The old dog barks backwards with
out looking up. / I can remember when he was a pup.’”\nDr. Pat Sterling is
a retired Professor of English from Western Colorado University in Gunnison
, Colorado. Her lifelong interest in the poetry of Robert Frost dates back
to her high school days.\nThere are speakers on the patio if you wish to en
joy the service outside.\nThis Sunday there will be a Children’s Religious
Education program. Parents are invited to bring children four years old and
up to attend youth-led classes. Ninth grader Ivy Stephens-Etheridge, a for
mer CRE student, will read a story and lead a lesson on the theme of “Readi
ng” this Sunday.\nUUFSC Safety Protocol as pursuant to our most recent UUA
Guidelines:\nWe will not be serving food or drinks in the building until fu
rther notice. Masks will still need to be worn at all times indoors and out
except when eating or drinking. We will continue to serve refreshments on
the patio, weather permitting. Visitors are always welcome.\nThe Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship of Silver City is a diverse group of religious inde
pendents seeking knowledge, spiritual sustenance, fellowship and opportunit
ies for service to others. Our programs encompass humanism, liberal Christi
anity, earth-based spirituality, Buddhism and many other traditions. If you
