(Photo by David Thornburg)It’s that time of year again – when ghosts and goblins and princesses attend the annual Trunk or Treat event at Los Olmos Lodge in Glenwood on Halloween Oct. 31. Sponsored by Los Olmos, the event is twofold, there will be a fundraiser dinner ($10) at 5 p.m. with proceeds going to the 4th of July Fireworks fund, followed by Trunk or Treat at 6 p.m. outside the Lodge. Area residents decorate their vehicles and hand out treats to the youngsters in a fun and safe environment. Some even offer games. The Glenwood Woman’s Club is also planning a Cakewalk at the event. 

Mogollon, the area’s own Ghost Town, will be wrapping up its season the weekend of Oct. 12-13. The quaint former mining community is a fun day trip – weekends through Oct 13. The Purple Onion Cafe opens at 9 a.m., the Old Kelly Store and the Mogollon Museum open at 10 a.m. 

Friday October 18 is a Release and Signing party for the 2020 calendar that benefits Glenwood Community Library at The Catwalk Gallery and Gift Shop on Highway 180 in Glenwood. A different artist is featured on each month. From 3-5 p.m., artists whose work is featured in the calendar will be on hand to sign your copy.  Calendars are $10 each and all proceeds benefit the library. The calendar cover features an oil painting, “Alma, Soul Of New Mexico,” by Loris Garber.

(Courtesy Photo)Friday October 18 is Movie Night at Glenwood Community Library. The movie is “Rocketman,” the new film about the life of Elton John starring Taron Egerton. It is a one-of-a-kind musical celebration set to Elton John’s most beloved songs. Discover how a shy, small-town boy becomes one of the most iconic figures in rock & roll. Free popcorn and soft drinks are provided.  Donations are always appreciated. Showtime is 7 p.m. Friday October 18 at the library, 14 Menges Lane, Glenwood, New Mexico 88039.

Mogollon Mountain Gun Club is holding its Fall shoot Saturday Oct. 19 starting at 9 a.m. at the Glenwood range. Events include centerfire rifle and pistol as well as rimfire rifle and pistol. Entry fees for all events are $2. There will be roast beef sandwiches for lunch --delicious and reasonably priced. For more information, call John Murphy 539-2527.

Cosmic Campground

This month the Cosmic Campground Weekend will be Oct. 26, 27 and 28, with Southern Taurid Meteor Shower Oct. 28-29. The Orionid Meteor Shower is Oct. 21.  Bring a friend, red filtered flashlight, very warm clothes, a lawn chair, and telescope and binoculars if you have them. Glenwood Street Market – Every Saturday

The Glenwood Street Market offers a variety of food – home-baked items, canned goods, fresh produce, plants, handcrafted jewelry, leather goods, outdoor decorative items and much more.  It is open on Highway 180 in downtown Glenwood every Saturday from approximately 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The Trading Post has reopened under new management, Kerry Ruth and Carla Schmeider, who also operate Los Olmos Lodge. The rejuvenated store, on Highway 180 in downtown Glenwood, offers snacks, drinks, sandwiches and – gas (available 24/7). As an added bonus, they have purchased the stock from the Rock Shop which had been closed and rockhounds of all ages will be pleased to peruse their offerings.

The Catwalk Gallery and Gift Shop on Highway 180 in Glenwood is open weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for season. Stop by to see the exciting new artwork and artisan crafts.
